We are an all volunteer dog rescue organization devoted to helping abandoned or surrendered giant breed dogs in the Virginia area.

The giant breed dogs come to us from  various situations: financial reasons, development of allergies, families moving away and unable to take the dog with them, and many more. Some dogs are found as strays with no identification to locate their original family. Occasionally we will rescue dogs from hoarders or from abusive situations. The reason a giant breed dog comes to us is not as important as our mission to take care of the giant breed dogs, ensure they are healthy and find them loving forever homes. They all need our help and we need yours.

If you are interested in adopting a giant breed dog, start by looking at our "Available Dogs" page. They all come from different situations but they all share the desire to be loved and to love back. Our available dogs are just waiting to be by your side and keep your feet warm at night!

We are here to guide you and help you find the right giant breed dog for you and your family. If we don't have your perfect giant breed dog, we can help you with other rescue organizations to find the perfect giant breed for you. We only want to help each giant breed dog find a forever home. We make every effort to ensure the dog will be a perfect match for your family. Please contact us and we'll help narrow down which dogs will be best for you.

After looking over our available dogs, please fill out an adoption application, located on our "Available Dogs" page.

If you are interested in helping our rescue, please see the "Ways You Can Help" page and fill out a Volunteer application.

Rescue of the Month

Zoya is a petite 1-2 yr old Great Dane girl who came to us pregnant with 14 puppies! She has since delivered and weaned her puppies. She is a true puppy at heart and is looking for a family to teach her the finer things in life along with good manners and boundaries. Zoya has a lot of energy and loves to play outside with you, she would make an excellent running partner! She is learning the world is not a scary place, to trust people, along with basic manners, obedience and not to chew on stuff she isn’t supposed to chew on. She needs a little patience and understanding as she came to us from a shelter after being surrendered by a family who tied her up outside and gave her very little. She is now putting on weight and scheduled to be spayed on 10/14/15. She will be up to date on all vaccinations and spayed prior to adoption. Her adoption fee is $300.

We are a 501c3 organization. All donations made are tax deductible and a tax donation letter will be sent for all donations received.

A financial statement is available upon request by either contacting the treasurer at treasurer@giantheartsdogrescue.com or send a written request to the VA Office of Consumer Affairs.
